Simply Red kick started their 40th anniversary celebrations yesterday when Mick Hucknall made a long-awaited guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, performing classic track ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’ with acclaimed house band The Roots.

As part of their anniversary celebrations, Simply Red are in the process of re-recording the greatest hits from their exceptional 40-year career. Their re-record of ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’ was released along with their performance on Fallon, the first of many re-records set for release in 2025.
The track, originally recorded by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, first appeared on Simply Red’s #1 album ‘A New Flame’ in 1989 – it was an immediate global success and went straight to #1 in the US. The 2025 re-record retains all the heart and emotion of the original, but with a fresher & more modern sound. Mick gives a world-class vocal performance that gives his original vocal a run for its money. Listen HERE.
Simply Red kick off their epic 40th Anniversary tour at the end of February in Latin America where they will play to over 140,000 people including 5 sold out nights in Santiago, Chile’s Movistar Arena. They will play almost 50 arena shows this year across the globe, including two shows at London’s 02 Arena and 1 night at London’s Wembley Arena in October. The shows will feature hits and fan favourites from across their incredible catalogue, and tell the story of the band from their 1985 critically acclaimed debut ‘Picture Book’ right up to the present day. By the time it finishes, the 2025/26 40th Anniversary Tour will play to over a million people.
Simply Red have enjoyed the kind of long-lived success most bands can only dream of. They have sold over 60 million albums worldwide, enjoyed 5 UK #1 albums, had 2 billion streams across streaming platforms worldwide, and over 1 million YouTube subscribers. Their classic 1991 album ‘Stars’- was the best-selling album for two years in Britain and Europe while all 13 of Simply Red’s studio albums including their latest release ‘Time’, have been top ten in the UK. Simply Red’s 40th anniversary is primed to be a time of rediscovery of this legendary 4-decade long career for fans of the band. Expect much more to come as 2025 unfolds.
Simply Red remain one of the UK’s most successful and well-loved bands, with Mick Hucknall still considered one of the great vocalists of contemporary music. It’s easy to hear why on this clip from the Tonight Show HERE.
